S1 mk.2 - Fast Arpeggios

Another demo of the Cwejman S1 mk2 doing nice arpeggiated patterns. Two separate jams were recorded...again with no intention of layering them up - I was intending to put a few different demos up individually, but they sounded so cool together I decided to layer them up - it starts off with one track, in the centre, and about halfway through the second track comes in, and as it fades in both the tracks pan out to the left and right, so you can hear the individual jams)

The arpeggiator was applied to the Silent Way Voice Controller in Logic, and sent to the S1's CV input. I think the Turing Machine provided a slower "bassline" on one track, using osc1, with the arpeggiator controlling the other two oscs - one of which is synced to the "bassline" on osc1. The FILTER MIX control is manipulated, mixing between the LPF and MMF, each with different rhythms/ envelopes.

The 4ms PEG is used to add quirky rhythmic interest, with various parameters (division, curve) modulated by the Moskwa sequencer - this works really well with the PEG, as you can set it to play through its steps at random, but tweak all the individual voltages so that they produce desirable rhythms (i usually use a random clocked cv source, such as the a149-1, but sometimes that throws out slight irritating rhythms that sound a little messy - eg: /5, /7 etc..). The Moskwa gives you much more control, whilst still keeping a random feel to things. Excellent module!

One of the jams utilised the WMD Multimode VCA, with an FM modulator osc from the S1 going into one side, and a random voltage from the a149-1 into the other....and the vulcan modulator was used to crossfade between them, before sending the output on to FM one of the other S1 oscs. Maths was also used to fade anothe FM modulation in and out, using the wonderfully cheap and cheerful Doepfer a132-1 dual vca.

Am going to have to do some more of these, as they're a TON of fun! You can really hear just how clear and precise the filters and oscs of the S1 are, and it seems to have a decent amount of low end too, which is more surprising.

I think I may make this one into a proper track at some point too, as i like its vibe - the two tracks kind of slip and slide against each other, and it's a wonder they work at all...but they do for some reason. sweet
